Farms near Marana offering Wild animals & whimsical fields
If you’re anything like me, you love a good weekend outing that’s just a little offbeat… something that’s fun for the kids (or the grown-up kids at heart), super Instagram-worthy, and still close enough to make it back in time for dinner.
Southern Arizona is full of unexpected farm adventures — think ostrich kisses, baby goats in pajamas, tractors and pumpkins, and whole fields of sunflowers just begging for a selfie. Here’s my go-to list of funky farms near Marana that you absolutely have to experience.
Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch (Picacho Peak)
Distance from Marana: ~30 minutes
This place is legendary. Right off I-10 at the base of Picacho Peak, Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch lets you feed (and maybe get smooched by) giant ostriches, deer, goats, and even stingrays — yes, stingrays on a farm in the desert. It’s a farm near Marana that’s interactive, wild, and unforgettable.
Ghost Ranch Exotics (Marana)
Reservations required
Ghost Ranch Exotics, also known as the Funny Foot Farm is home to one of the largest capybara experiences in the entire United States. But that’s just the start. They have a wide array of exotic and unusual animals — from giant tortoises and mini cows to porcupines, armadillos, and more.
This is a hands-on, guided tour-style experience, and reservations are required. They also do private birthday parties and mobile experiences, too. Check their website for details.
Marana Pumpkin Patch (Marana)
Seasonal – a few weeks each October
This one’s a fall favorite, and it’s right here in our own backyard. The Marana Pumpkin Patch is more than just pumpkins — there’s a corn maze, train rides, jumping pillows, farm animals, zip lines, and fair-style farm fresh food options. This is probably the most popular farm near Marana.
Life Under the Oaks Lavender Farm (Oracle)
Distance from Marana: ~45 minutes
This dreamy little farm in Oracle is straight out of a Pinterest board. Lavender blooms, local artisan gifts, and the cutest rustic barn events — it’s the kind of spot that feels miles away (in the best way).
They host lavender festivals, tea parties, and even goat yoga under the oak trees.
Sunflower Celebration (Tohono O’odham Reservation)
Distance from Marana: ~40 minutes
This one-day, family-friendly event is typically held the first week of August and offers a rare chance to explore vibrant sunflower fields in bloom. Hosted by the San Xavier Coop Farm, this celebration includes a peaceful morning of walking through the fields, snapping photos, and enjoying a farm-fresh breakfast.
The event takes place on sacred Native land, home to a unique cooperative farm dedicated to traditional and sustainable practices. You may reach out for a private, pre-scheduled tour of the farm by filling out their online form. Don’t miss the small onsite store, where you can purchase organic products grown right on the farm.
Apple Annie’s Orchard & Farm (Willcox)
Distance from Marana: ~90 minutes
It’s a bit of a drive, but totally worth it, especially if you’re into apple cider donuts, homemade pies, or anything pick-your-own. Apple Annie’s in Willcox is a must for seasonal farm fun. Think juicy peaches in July, crisp apples in August, pumpkins galore in October, and golden sunflower fields in late summer. It’s one of the best-known farms near Marana for that classic Arizona farm day vibe. On your way back, swing by BuzzBee Honey in St. David, a small, family-run spot with local honey and a small pecan farm.
Old Pueblo Cellars (Tucson)
Distance from Marana center: ~15 minutes
Yes, this one absolutely counts as one of the farms near Marana because the vineyard is right next to the tasting room. Old Pueblo Winery offers a relaxed, rustic setting surrounded by mature mesquite trees and wide-open desert skies. It’s a beautiful place to kick back with friends or family, sip local wine and enjoy the beauty of the Sonoran Desert.
BuzzBee Honey (St. David)
Distance from Marana: ~75 minutes
BuzzBee Honey is a small, family-run apiary and pecan farm tucked away in St. David, just a short detour and on the way to or from Apple Annie’s. They offer raw, local honey and fresh pecans straight from the source, the kind of spot that makes a day trip feel extra special. Support this hardworking local farm and soak in the peaceful, wide open views while you’re there.
